As Los Olivos Marketplace near Irvine Spectrum expands to an additional 120,000 square feet, there’s news of more things going in. Come Spring, the quietest of Irvine Company’s retail centers will get busier with a Whole Foods Market opening as the anchor, the second branch of Dana Point’s Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana, San Diego’s Burger Lounge, a new Panini Cafe, and Burnt Crumbs.
Now there’s word that a Mexican restaurant called Puesto is joining them.
Puesto bills itself as a “Mexican Street Food” restaurant. There are tacos, of course, with carnitas, but also chicken al pastor, lamb barbecue, zucchini and nopales, lobster, and filet mignon (both of which much be food from a particularly affluent street). The specialty tacos of the house, though, are the seafood tacos with grilled swordfish, octopus, “Tamarindo Shrimp”, and a battered wild cod it’s calling its version of “Baja Fish Tacos”.
According to the menu for its two San Diego locations, price points for the tacos start at $15 for three, with an additional $3.50 each if you want all three to be lobster.
The rest of the menu is rounded out by bowls, and an antojitos list that has ceviche and a seafood cocktail.
Stay tuned here for its anticipated opening date. And if you still don’t know exactly where Los Olivos is, it’s the shopping center across from Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Irvine Center Drive whose most recognizable tenant right now is Fukada.
