Our Mother's Brief Affair

Written by Richard Greenburg (who has secured a Tony Award, Los Angeles Drama Critics Award, an Oppenheimer Award, a Pulitzer finalist nod and scores of other accolades), Our Mother’s Brief Affair comes to South Coast Repertory in another round of impeccable storytelling—no need for fancy action sequences here. Closeted skeletons and old family secrets come to light as middle-aged twins discover that their harsh, caustic mother—who disapproves of her children’s homosexuality—once had an illicit love affair. Though the duration was short (is 11 weeks still considered “brief” by today’s standards?), the identity of the person with whom she canoodled starts the twists and turns rolling in Greenburg’s dramatic yet hysterical tale.
