Fresh off the heels of my “Anaheim, Oversaturated With Breweries?” article, one such brewery mentioned is still beard-deep in construction in the heart of Anaheim’s Historic MotherColony District: Modern Times Leisuretown. The old warehouse on the corner of Anaheim Boulevard and Water Street is slowing transforming into a beer lover’s dream, where a cafe and warehouse will come to life with almost 32,000 feet of swimming pool action, movie screens, beer gardens, and reused shipping containers perfect for partying in.
Although they slated the opening for 2017, mid-2019 looks to be a more realistic timeframe, but that doesn’t stop me from finding their beer on tap around town. Modern Times has a strong foothold and fanbase throughout SoCal, and the new location will only strengthen it. One of the beers I’ve fell in love with recently is Orderville Hazy IPA, a pillowy soft nod to the Mosaic hop.
At a modest 7.2% and almost 72,000 Untappd check-ins with a strong 3.96 rating, this beer somehow still flies under the radar of haze-heads always in search of the latest murk. While some may stand in line for the new and shiny, Orderville is easily obtainable in your favorite beer shop or beer bar…just sitting there, winking at you with its dank eyes, ready to help you achieve total hop consciousness.
To style, Orderville checks all the boxes of what a Hazy IPA is all about with a liquid that is completely saturated in hops. It’s got big fuzzy stonefruit on the aroma, some piney mouthfeels on the finish, and an overall beer that keeps you coming back for more. Will you drink an Oderville in Leisuretown? I know I will…floating on a pool toy, taco in one hand, beer in the other.
