The Irvine Police Department announced a DUI checkpoint in the area of MacArthur Boulevard and Campus Drive on Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
It’s but one of many local operations Orange County law enforcement agencies have planned over Memorial Day weekend.
For instance, the Buena Park Police Department previously announced saturation patrols and a checkpoint on its own over the holiday weekend.
Saturation patrols sticks officers specifically on streets with reputations for drunken and/or drugged driving stops, arrests, crashes and deaths. Keep in mind cops will also be out on their normal patrols over the same weekend.
Meanwhile, the BPPD has not announced the exact date and times for the DUI checkpoint. If that information of details on any additional traffic ops arrive before our deadline, this post will be updated.
Other previously announced operations:
- Newport Beach Police Department continues specialized motorcycle safety enforcement operations through Saturday, with extra officers patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where recent traffic collisions have occurred involving them. The Buena Park Police Department continues similar motorcycle enforcement through Sunday.
- Irvine, Anaheim and Buena Park’s police departments continue their participation in the national Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign through June 3. Specially assigned officers will be on the lookout for vehicle occupants in violation of seat-belt laws, including children who are not properly secured in child safety seats.
Funding for each operation comes to the departments from separate California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
