DUI Checkpoints Roll in Santa Ana Tonight and Irvine Saturday Night

There are DUI checkpoints in Santa Ana tonight and in Irvine Saturday night.

The Santa Ana Police Department operation runs Friday from 9 p.m. through 2:30 a.m. in the area of 200 S. Grand Ave.

The Irvine Police Department sobriety stop is Saturday from 8 p.m. through 2 a.m. in the area of Culver Drive and Barranca Parkway.

Both checkpoints are staffed by officers trained in detecting drug and alcohol impairment, and just because recreational weed is legal in California or a doctor prescribed you  painkiller that does not mean you’ll escape Johnny Law should you be driving under the influence.

Each cop shop funds its DUI enforcement operations with California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  1. Impairments and driving doesn’t deserve a nano second on our streets. Still we as human beings in our race to satisfy that hunger to have a good time break the law every day driving impaired. Sadly they are not the one to tell someones loved one the bad news when that ultimate price is paid for impaired judgement. Thats our finest first responders doing what they do best every day bringing the bad news your loved one just passed away from a driver driving impaired. Those men and women who bring that news carry those scars right along with those who lost love ones. The laws are to lax in this country there is no backbone everybodys worried about how much $$$$ they will make or stepping on toes wake up people. It all starts with Education instead of show that bottle of alchol of the commercial show the graphic effects it leaves behind when people make bad choices. Those who supply the product should be just as much to blame as the person making bad choices. The manufacturing company’s know there will be caos at some point yet they still sell this product and go untouched because they didn’t force someone to use there product. Rightous it may be but in the same turn of the hand the product caused the person to loose judgement. So judgement where does it fall i see a two way street we are free in this country and still we are so stupid to repeat history every day. Keep up the good work make those who make bad choices humans and suppliers pay for there mistakes. Educate Educate Educate

  2. As long as they don’t use it as an excuse to give tickets for other random things,I am all for it, otherwise it just seems like an unconstitutional stop.

    1. Oh no the Irvine Police would NEVER do such a thing! Members of Orange County’s most overzealous police force arrested me with a .02 blood alcohol level simply because I exercised my fifth amendment rights and wouldn’t submit to their voluntary field sobriety tests. The bar for probable cause is very low in Irvine.

      1. my license was not current but my friends was we were checked even though neither of us drinks he could not drive us home the truck was impounded 30 days 2000 dollars we are seniors they were sarcastic and laughed at us as we walked away that cold night I really felt as though I was very much mistreated we had been selling light toys at the boat parade Irvine police seemed to have an idea they were the gestapo

  3. Regardless ,where you are in ‘stage of life’ “respect for another human is being human , that bleeds red” “Driving under the influence of” is not OK?

  4. I was on the way home from Speedway one night. Perhaps one too many beers. Getting off on east bound 17th st, I see lights. What the F? Before I know it I am in a check point. Driving the wife’s MB I rolled down the window, smiled, said good evening and was waved through. This drunk had just escaped being caught for being stupid! I was stunned for days. This was my chance and I will never drive under the influence again. The check point worked for me . I support them with some reservations.

  5. As a soverign citizen, I will refuse to cooperate and ultimately be dragged from my car through my busted window. But hey, another great you tube video for all to enjoy.

  6. People should be charged and prosecuted for a crime and sentenced accordingly. With that said, these supposed “DUI” CHECKPOINTS yes CHECKPOINTS! Are totally unconstitutional and of a Communist mindset. Today’s sheep have no problem giving up our freedom for PERCEIVED safety. Same as gun control its its ridiculously naive….

  7. I lost 3 friends from idiot drunk drivers I’m glad they have dui checkpoints. Take a look at the bar on 1st and Sullivan on sat and Sunday nights we wonder why we lose so many lived ones for those who have stupid things to say wait till you lose someone you love!

  8. I’d be a lot less concerned about checkpoints in Irvine IF The Irvine PD didn’t have such a long, documented history of false arrests, misconduct, civil rights violations and sexual abuse against citizens. This city has paid out MILLIONS in lawsuits over the years.

Cops in Irvine get REWARDED simply for the number of DUI arrests they make but not for CONVICTIONS. So REMEMBER, you are allowed to make ANY legal maneuver, including u-turns, to AVOID a DUI checkpoint. In Irvine, just stopping at a checkpoint may be enough to get you ARRESTED!
