UNITED BY BLUE, REI, LAZY DOG RESTAURANT & BAR, AND THE BOLSA CHICA CONSERVANCY TO HOST HOLIDAY CLEANUP IN
HUNTINGTON BEACH WETLANDS
Public Invited to participate in December 8 Cleanup of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands
The Bolsa Chica Conservancy has joined with United By Blue, REI, and Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar to host a holiday cleanup in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The 1,500-acre wetland is the largest saltwater marsh of its kind between the San Diego-Mexico border and Central California. Debris and non-native or invasive plant removal is one way the community can work together to keep the wetlands functioning their best. We all need a strong immune system this time of year and so does the reserve.
“United By Blue is committed to conserving our waterways and pleased to work together with the Bolsa Chica Conservancy to enhance a treasure like the Bolsa Chica Wetlands,” said Kelly Offner, Head of Cleanups for United By Blue. “We look forward to engaging the community to keep our ocean and coastal resources healthy.”
“REI is a long-standing partner of the Conservancy and we are excited to continue helping keep our local ecological resources be a vibrant place to play and explore in the Huntington Beach community,” said Kim Pannell of the Huntington Beach REI.
“Rolling up our sleeves and lending a helpful hand in our communities has always been part of our Lazy Dog culture. Our teammates are eager to take part in a community cleanup to ensure the well-being of the wetlands,” said Chris Simms, CEO & Founder of Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar.
It takes just 100 people to remove 1 ton of trash, so bring a friend and spend two hours keeping the wetlands healthy for wildlife and southern Californians. Home to more than 320 bird species, as well as a variety of fish, marine and terrestrial wildlife, the Bolsa Chica wetlands are the perfect place to engage our community outdoors.
