The Costa Mesa opens its 54th season with the Orange County premiere of Lucas Hnath’s award-winning play, “The Christians”.
Upon entering the theater, the audience will find themselves congregants in a huge megachurch. Twenty years ago, Pastor Paul’s church was nothing more than a modest storefront. Now he presides over a congregation of thousands. Today should be a day of celebration. But Paul is about to preach a sermon that will shake the foundations of his church’s belief.
The LA Daily News called the play “… powerful, in its intertwining of intellect and passion. As such, it does what theater does so well — make people think, ponder their own understandings, share with others and, regardless of viewpoint, become emotionally engaged in either the concept or the characters, or both.”
