GEMfest is a one-of-a-kind celebration (like a conference, but “more!”) that aims to educate girls in grades 6-8 about empowerment, self-esteem and independence, and inspire them to take on middle school, high school, and the world! On Saturday, March 2nd from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. this 2nd annual event will showcase several guest speakers, panels, hands-on workshops, delicious food & fun that will leave young girls – and their parents – feeling fearless.
Organized by students for students, GEMfest 2019 will open with keynote speaker Kamie Crawford – former Miss Teen USA 2010 & current activist for diversity and body positivity. Attendees will then have the opportunity to meet like-minded peers, connect with older, high school-age student who just get it, and learn from inspiring and approachable female mentors to develop healthy habits for life.
Additional guest speakers include Taylor Hiskey (Social Media Director for Urban Decay Cosmetics), Alexa Losey (YouTube influencer), Jennifer Cassetta (women’s self-defense expert), Kemiyondo Coutinho (a Ugandan playwright, actress and filmmaker, featured in Forbes Africa’s “30 under 30”), and Girls Driving for a Difference (a group from Stanford who’ll trach a workshop on using Design Thinking to problem solve + create personal mission statements.) Topics will range from include nutrition, wellness, and following your dreams to public speaking, social media, and habits for a healthy life.
