Eclectic tropical-pop band Hirie has a busy few months ahead of them, with a solo show at La Santa in Santa Ana on Aug. 1, the release of their third album on Sept. 13, a set at the On The Water Fest 2019 in Huntington Beach on Oct. 13 and a whole bunch of dates throughout the summer opening for Slightly Stoopid or Matisyahu as well as a fall headlining tour that ends Nov. 23 back on their home turf (at The Observatory San Diego).
Vocalist/frontwoman Trish Jetton says of the upcoming Megaforce Records release Dreamer, “This album is about raw honesty. I feel like I was braver with exploring my emotional state and how that swings back and forth—allowing myself to be brutally honest.”
She penned the majority of the tracks with The Drive (a.k.a. songwriters Mark Merthe and Nate Evans), and after about two years of writing, the recording was done in two weeks at a live-in studio called Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas with producer Danny Kale (Ben Harper, Beck). “Danny Kalb is a genius of a producer,” Jetton says. “We’ve worked on two albums together. He’s always open to hearing my ideas and is also a great decision maker when there are too many great ideas on the table.”
The “Hirie” name is a nod to that multiculturalism–a mix of “Hawaii” and “irie”–and the band’s sound blends its members’ roots in different styles of music, including jazz, metal, jam rock, gospel and R&B, and the instruments they deploy include accordion and didgeridoo.
