The Glass Menagerie

Jan 31st • 8:00 pm • Modjeska Playhouse

Tennessee William’s debut play, The Glass Menagerie, hit the stage just a few years before Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof solidified his talent as some of the best of the century. Though it had a slow start, The Glass Menagerie eventually made it to Broadway, where his penchant for family dysfunction and complex narratives wowed the pants right off of everybody. Taking a turn at the Modjeska Playhouse this month, Glass tells the semi-autobiological story of a broken family, abandoned by the patriarch, while each remaining member disdainfully hangs on, escaping reality whenever possible. Loosely based on Williams’ own family structure, this one, well, it’s not exactly a basket full of puppies, but it is a damn fine drama.

Thursdays-Saturdays 8 p.m.; Sundays 5 p.m. $25-$25. Through Feb. 10
