The Festival Singers, led by Artistic Director Gary Toops with pianist Carol Roman, presents some of the most enduring songs from the 1920s to the 1950s. The concert showcases the music of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Henry Mancini and many more. The program concludes with selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical Carousel. Baritones Aaron Leppke and Daniel Wilson are the featured guest soloists.
Aaron Leppke, winner of the 2019 Lyric Opera Young Artist Award, is a music major at Vanguard University of Southern California studying Vocal Performance under Dr. Joni Prado. Aaron covered the role of Oberon in Lyric Opera of Orange County’s production of Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. He is regularly a guest soloist with the choirs at Mount of Olives Church in Mission Viejo and Seacoast Grace Church in Cypress. Following his graduation from Vanguard in May, he hopes to attend California State University Fullerton in the fall to begin his Masters in Vocal Performance.
Daniel Wilson has been singing professionally throughout the U.S. for over 30 years. His theater credits include Carl-Magnus in “A Little Night Music,” Sky Masterson in “Guys and Dolls,” Tony in “West Side Story,” Curly in “Oklahoma,” and Captain Jack Absolute in Sheridan’s “The Rivals.” He has sung with The Los Angeles Chamber Singers and Capella, the Long Beach Opera, the Southern California Choral Society, The Jane Hardester Singers, Zephyr: Voices Unbound, and the Orange County based de Angelis Vocal Ensemble. Dan is the Cantor, baritone soloist, and Bell Choir Director at St. Cross Episcopal Church in Hermosa Beach.
