St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin will host the First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, New Jersey Westminster Choir in a production of “Urinetown”, Sunday February 17 at 5:00 p.m.
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards, “Urinetown” is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America’s great art forms.
Cast members are between 13 and 18 years of age. Many of them have been in choir programs for years and some join the program for the final year or two of high school. The Westminster Choir has been touring each winter break for 30 years. Historically, the choir performs 5 shows in 7 days, using its own lights, sound, costumes and props.
St. Paul’s rector, the Rev. Kay Sylvester, says, “I remember that in the church of my childhood, it was exciting and fun to see young people from other churches come to perform. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing this production of a musical with a pertinent social message about how we treat our planet and one another.”
In support of the host church, the audience will have an opportunity to make a free-will offering. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is located at 1221 Wass Street in Tustin.
