As a special Halloween treat, the Costa Mesa Playhouse continues its 54th season with the world premiere of “Vampire Queen of Mars,” written and directed by playhouse board president, Michael Dale Brown, playing October 19 through November 11, 2018.
Like Brown’s earlier play, “Earthlings Beware,” which had two successful runs at the playhouse, “Vampire Queen of Mars” is a campy spoof of 1950s sci-fi B-movies, Whereas “Earthlings Beware” spoofed alien invasion movies, “Vampire Queen of Mars” is inspired by 1950s spaceflight movies like “Cat Women of the Moon,” “Queen of Outer Space,” and “Rocketship X-M.”
In response to mysterious distress signals, Earth launches its first manned rocket to the planet Mars — and encounters a race of Amazon vampires with a thirst for human blood, led by the beautiful and evil Queen Voluptua.
With choreography by Nicki Peek, “Vampire Queen of Mars” stars Jesse Seann Atkinson, Jeff Bickel, Adriana Catanzarite, Ron Grigsby, Emily Hansen, Brooke Lewis, Wayne Mayberry, Ashley Montgomery, Mary Price Moore, Kay Richey, Raven Rodriguez, Claire Marie Sparr, and Terrance C. Washington.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, October 19 through November 11, 2018.
