Fatbergs: Your New Food-Related Word of the Day


Last month, the Guardian took a video tour of London's sewers, so you can imagine the fetid squalor in the video. The biggest obstacle for the men charged with maintaining the cloacas of London is cooking fat and toilet paper (which the Brits lovingly call “wet wipes”–ah, such Victorian piety!), which congeal into massive blocks they must break down lest sewers rupture. Thankfully, us Yanks have grease traps that capture most of the cooking fat, but that flushing toilet paper down the loo, man…gotta do like the Mexicans and avert ecological disasters.
