Grub Guide – 11/29-12/5: Burgers, Bacon, Break of Dawn

We thank our lucky stars for every week we get to share all the food news we receive and discover. Knowing it is only half the fun; spreading the word is the other. This week is no exception, as you’ll soon find out. So dry off from the bout of rain, sit back with a hot mug of something, and read up.

The Sticky Pig is Back Online!

Tara Simon (best known to us as the Bacon Vixen) spent the last four years pursuing her dream of being a photographer. Before that, we knew her as the lady who brought the bacon. Bacon chocolates, that is! This past summer, she relaunched The Sticky Pig brand, slowly rolling out her selection of reliable flavor combinations. After ordering her initial batch, we are very pleased to report they taste better than ever. These treats are made with a lotta love, so pinpoint that sweet and savory fan and hook them up this holiday season. www.eatthestickypig.com.

Dee Nguyen Featured On TODAY – Laguna Hills

The first time we met our restaurant reviewer in person, it was over brunch with a group of food bloggers at a new place called Break of Dawn. The story of how this breakfast and lunch-only (plus sold-out monthly dinner) spot came about isn’t easy to put into words, so TODAY recently filmed a piece with Chef Dee Nguyen at his home and establishment for all the details. You can learn more at this link 24291 Avenida de la Carlota, Laguna Hills (949) 587-9418; www.breakofdawnrestaurant.com.

Tidbits Grand Opening –  Fountain Valley

The newest hot spot is actually cold. Or do we mean cool? Either way, Tidbits was made for your sweet tooth. Sea salt, matcha and cheese teas will get your taste buds ready for Taiwanese wheel cakes, egg puff waffle cones and ice cream treats galore. Swing by the official grand opening this Saturday for a free treat of your choice between the hours of noon and 4 p.m.. There’s always room in our stomach for dessert. 16051 Brookhurst St., Unit D, (866) 210-0830; www.tidbitsoc.com.

SAJJ Mediterranean Grand Opening Friday – Irvine

Already open in RSM, the second OC outpost for healthy eats is in a busy strip mall off Irvine Center Drive (not to be confused with Irvine Boulevard) and Sand Canyon. To reward those in line tomorrow morning, the first 30 eaters lined up at 11 a.m. receive a card good for an entree on a future visit. All guests will also receive half-off their lunch and dinner orders all day long. We’re nerds for their lentil soup, but are ready to experiment with the chocolate hummus dessert on our next go-around. 6636 Irvine Center Dr., (949) 336-4404; www.sajjstreeteats.com.

Ruby’s Diner Anniversary Special – Participating Locations

To celebrate another Ruby’s anniversary, participating locations will be offering a $2.99 burger and fries combo all day long on December 5. One dollar from every combo ordered will go to the Ruby Dooby Foundation, which donates to youth charities such as CHOC, OCSA and Miracle Babies. We suggest calling ahead to confirm the diner near you is a part of the promotion. Also, it gets really crowded on these event days, so allow extra time for waiting to be seated. It helps to arrive right when they open, if possible. www.rubys.com.
