Halal Guys to Open in Costa Mesa Friday, Oct. 2

The Halal Guys will open at 3033 Bristol St. in Costa Mesa, right around the corner from Weekly World HQ, this coming Friday, October 2, at 11 a.m. As Charles reported six months ago, this is the first Southern California opening for the famous street cart, who have plans to franchise at least 50 restaurants.

There is also an upcoming location at 1804 Ximeno Ave. in Long Beach, but no opening date has been published yet.

As a former daytime denizen of midtown Manhattan, the Halal Guys saved me from scarfing vending machine crap for lunch on more than one occasion. Rice, chicken, white sauce, done. It was fast, it was incredibly cheap, and even New Yorkers who would sooner die than eat a street pretzel or a dirty-water dog would line up at 53rd and 6th.

Can it possibly be the same without the noise and fumes and crowds of Sixth Avenue? Stay tuned for our food crew's first look at their menu.
