Homeless Man Dead and Second Held After Anaheim Riverbed Fight

UPDATE, FEB. 10, 1:01 P.M.: Heriberto Hernandez Munoz, 32, has been arrested for the murder of fellow Anaheim transient Javier Delgado Martinez, 39, according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt, the Anaheim Police Department spokesman. Munoz will be held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail. The motive for the murder is still under investigation, and detectives are not discussing the type of weapon that was used to inflict blunt force trauma on Martinez, says Wyatt, who adds “Munoz’s booking photo is not being released at this time as detectives are still showing photographic lineups to witnesses.”

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 10, 8:51 A.M.: A homeless man was found beaten to death in an Anaheim flood control channel Thursday afternoon and a second was taken in for questioning last night, according to police.

Neither has been identified.

A Brookhurst Junior High School teacher contacted the Anaheim Police Department around 3:40 p.m. to report that several students had seen two men fighting in the riverbed south of the 5 freeway and east of Valley Street.

The victim was found in the area of 704 N. Valley St., according to the county coroner.

Police say the dead man and presumed suspect knew one another, but the investigation into a motive continues.
