'MEX/LA' Exhibit Panel Discussion

The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach is closing up the summer with some serious art talk. Museum curator Ruben Ortiz-Torres sits down to moderate a panel discussion on the opening day of MOLAA’s new exhibit, “Mexican Moderism(s) in Los Angeles 1930-1985.” The discussion includes artist Harry Gamboa, Jr., whose work is featured in the exhibition, art history professor Catha Paquette and Jesse Lerner, MOLAA's associate curator. Panelists at the free event will discuss how Los Angeles became the capital of the modern Chicano art movement and hosted some of the first signature murals by landmark artists like David Alfaro Siqueiros and Jose Clemente Orozco. The exhibit itself features narratives and exhibits in multiple media, including painting, photography, film and “lowrider culture.”
