TONIGHT: Guerilla Aid Downtown Symposium at the Yost

I'll be honest: I usually associate the word “symposium” with “boredom.” It just sounds so stuffy, y'know? “Symposium.” There's usually a very low chance of fireworks or monster cars at a symposium.

But this one sounds a lot cooler than most: Guerrilla Aid at the Yost Theatre in downtown Santa Ana. It's a benefit for
Global Colors, a seemingly worthy cause I was previously unfamiliar with but appear to have sweeping, noble goals, with various do-goodery going on all over the world. Global Colors founder Barton Brooks will even by “live Skyping” during the event (the future is now!). They'll be a panel discussion and live music, from Pawn Shop Kings and Yellow Red Sparks, the latter of which I shared an animated conversation last weekend about movies with one of their members, Goldy. He still likes 300, though I did my best to talk him out of it. Seriously, terrible movie.

Oh, and there's also panel discussions from the Surfrider Foundation (protecting oceans and beaches), Keep a Breast (breast cancer) and Kidworks (supporting children and families in urban neighborhoods). Worthy causes all around. Whoo! $15 at the door.
