Sutra is Closing This Weekend. Will You Be Partying There One Last Time?

Costa Mesa's most popular bastion of big beats and bottle service is closing its doors for good. Sutra, a place thousands of OC's poshest (and drunkest) club rats have called home for the last 13 years, is ending its run at Triangle Square with a weekend-long lineup of parties that started last night with a set from Bass Jackers and will continue tonight with a set from Steve Wright and end on Saturday with Sander Van Doorn.

The announcement of the Sutra's closing hit fans of the club like a sparkler-topped champagne bottle to the face after a long Labor Day Weekend. Rumors of Sutra's closing were buzzing around as early as 2009, around the time of its massive remodel.

For years, it's been one of those places you either loved or loathed depending on your feelings for Vegas-style ultra lounges. It was also a place where most of EDM's top talent in the world would stop in to play late into the night. And if you felt like seeing rappers like Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and The Game hop on stage at 1 a.m., bang out their hits, knock back a swig of Henni and bounce, then this club was often the stuff of legend. One thing's for sure, it's definitely one of the few OC clubs to put us on the map in terms of EDM. And we'll definitely miss watching all those beautiful people spilling out onto Harbor Blvd after bar close like a hoard of inebriated party zombies.

But wait, all is not lost! Sutra's owners, Irvine-based company Identity MG, are planning to open a new spot called Time Night Club Thursday in the Triangle complex in the space once occupied by Niketown (which has actually been an unoccupied ghost town for over a decade).

It's not the first OC club to bite the dust or rebrand itself recently. Between, spots like Shark Club (now Mansion) and Ten (now EnVy Lounge) changing over and getting their respective facelifts, there's been plenty of upheaval in OC's nightlife as of late. For those who've made this club their weekend ritual over the years, be sure to savor the last weekend of ultimate indulgence and have a few $12 shots for us as well!
