Long Beach's Summer and Music concert series is stepping up its game this year by breaking some new ground that they'd like you to dance on this weekend. SAM recently announced its inaugural Dancin' in the Streets party featuring old soul crooner Nick Waterhouse with DJ sets by DJ Dennis Owens of the Goodfoot and DJ Lithuanian Prince on Saturday, Aug. 4.  The party hopes to pick up where events like last year's Buskerfest left off, planting an outdoor stage downtown on 7th and Pine from 7 p.m.-11p.m. along with food trucks and a beer garden hosted by Congregation Ale House.

Waterhouse, 24, a Huntington Beach-native, is an ideal fit for a party built on classic soul, funk and R&B that serves as a brilliant warm-up to Long Beach Funk Fest on Aug. 18. Spearheaded by SAM founder and Fingerprints record shop owner Rand Foster, the shindig is a pretty solid improvement to Long Beach's calendar of free summer music–which probably explains the event's location in the parking lot of Anderson's Paint and Hardware on 714 Pine Avenue.
“We're always looking for ways to improve and add new elements to SAM,” says Foster. “When last year's BuskerFest show ended with an impromptu dance party in the streets of Downtown, we all looked at each other and said, 'dance party!' There are few opportunities to dance outside in an urban setting and, judging by last year's 'Busker effect,' the interest extends far beyond us who plan and work on SAM.”
The young singer-songwriter, recently got some ink in GQ for his sound and style–an amalgam of pop and R&B from the '60s–and his latest full length Time's All Gone (released in May) and plans to bring a full nine-pice band to flesh out his new tracks with a tight, gritty fury that'll get the party going for locals who who stop by. Speaking of Waterhouse sightings, he showed up again today in an interview and performance for his new single “Some Place.” that just landed on our radar and is totally worth a look.
