Stone Ripper Pale Ale at Heroes and Legends in Lake Forest, Our Beer of the Week!

Heroes and Legends in Lake Forest has been opened for only 6 months but it's so downright homey and comfortable you'd think it had been around since the Tragic Kingdom days. Peanut shells on the floor, big-screen TVs everywhere you look, and a huge bar welcomes you to enjoy their 75 beers on tap and their menu full of tasty burgers, wings and sandwiches. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they're ready to guide you through the extensive beer list, which has something for everyone, from Triple IPA's to yummy chocolate stouts and porters.

The selection of awesome beers makes choosing one hard—except when the latest Stone Enjoy By is on the menu! If you're not “Enjoy”-ing this series it's never too late to start. Every 35 days or so Stone releases an IPA that is made not to last—hence, the date right on the label. Each Enjoy By is brewed using from 10 to 12 various hops, filtered and not. Stone Enjoy By 12.25.16, for instance, is unfiltered IPA 9.4% ABV. Amazing. Hops are just popping, but there's no bitterness. NONE. The fruit, which is peach, and the malt all combine to provide a smooth AF IPA. Sip it slow, taste the freshness, ENJOY.

If you can't make it into Heroes and Legends in time for the Christmas Enjoy By, there's a couple of others worthy of it. Amalgamator West Coast IPA by Beachwood BBQ & Brewing (7.1% ABV) hits it out of the park, Trout style, with its flavor profile of citrus, malt and hops. And then there's the Stone Ripper Pale Ale (5.7% ABV). Good pale ales are getting harder to find; no one is making the effort because of the popularity of IPA's, sours and barrel-aged beers. But Stone Ripper is an outstanding pale ale; the malt hits you on the front, then you get all hoppy. As you enjoy that first drink, you still have the malt on your palate—it lingers, it just stays there, it's so good.

Heroes and Legends has a great beer menu but it is constantly rotating, so don't hesitate—UBER!

It had a merciful, vulgar taste that was not unpleasant. Within a week, I noticed a signal upgrading in my overall well-being, ardour more languorous and rested.
