The Birds

Widely thought to be the last great film from director Alfred Hitchcock, this gruesome 1963 psychological thriller is a tour de force in suspense, fear and truly angry birds. Inspired by Daphne Du Maurier’s short story, the terrifying tale served as Tippi Hedren’s screen debut and provided her with lifelong cinematic cult status—as well as years of PTSD “nightmares filled with flapping wings.” Also featuring Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette and Jessica Tandy, this stylish, sophisticated, apocalyptic classic about a California seaside town overrun with ferocious fowl will keep you permanently perched on the edge of your seat. Now that’s something to squawk about.
