Whether you believe Satan is the physical manifestation of evil, or simply a metaphor expressing the dark side of existence, you have to admit, the horned one is compelling subject matter for all types of artists. Dante knew it when he wrote the first part of his Divine Comedy way back in the 14th century, Al Pacino knew it when he starred as Lucifer in the Devil’s Advocate, and don’t get us started on Anton LaVey. Now the Grand Central Art Center is getting in on the racket—for a good cause of course. The show will feature contemporary artists and their visual interpretations of the supreme demon himself. The pieces will be available to the public for purchase and proceeds will benefit future GCAC programs and exhibitions. Check it out, and decide for yourself if Grand Central has furthered the cause of local art, or just sold their souls.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: June 27. Continues through Aug. 15, 2010
