A recreational boat beached at Calafia State Park near San Clemente this week had no people but about 2,400 pounds of marijuana aboard, according to authorities.
The 25-foot, abandoned Bayliner was washing ashore around 3 p.m. Monday when California State Park rangers and U.S. Border Patrol agents pulled it in.
Once ashore, the boat was inspected and several large bags were found throughout the boat's interior, according to the Border Patrol, which adds 82 cellophane-wrapped bundles of marijuana were seized from the bags.
The estimated street value of the marijuana was about $1.2 million, say agents, who took custody of the boat.
Who was expecting the cannabis remains a mystery.
