There’s a theory that says if you put 50 monkeys in a room with 50 typewriters, eventually they will produce the entire works of Shakespeare. So what happens when you put five local playwrights in a room with nothing but computers and caffeine for seven hours? Perhaps something Shakespearian. Coming back for it’s eighth madcap installment, 24 Hour Theatre will push these writers’ talents, patience and aversion to sleep depravity to the limits. Each choosing settings, props, characters and lines of dialogue from a hat, being locked in a room all night, then furiously casting actors, finding props and rehearsing—they will debut five entirely new and original plays exactly 24 hours after the start of this crazy scheme. And then inevitably sleep for two days.
