I don't know how I first found Kech Café, a restaurant located inside the Circle K at the corner of Brookhurst and Talbert in Fountain Valley. I probably filled up at the Shell Station and went inside to pay, but however I landed there, I'm glad I did.

The counter looks like a Subway, but that's where the similarity ends. For one thing, instead of quasi-edible foam that looks like bread, Kech Café uses lavash that smells and tastes like freshly baked bread. Then you enter into negotiation with the counter staff. They'll suggest combinations of the vast array of ingredients. You get to choose whatever you'd like; my favorite is tuna with tapenade, like a rudimentary salade niçoise.
The wrap, by the time you put a spread, a meat, a cheese and four vegetables inside it, is huge; then you choose two sides that range from two kinds of potato salad to hummus, and it's big enough to save part for the inevitable 4 p.m. hunger pains.
The best part? That huge plate of fresh food costs just $6.49–far cheaper than that sandwich chain.
