The lineup for the first annual Music Tastes Good Festival presented by 89.9 KCRW FM was announced over the weekend, including sets from The Specials, Iron and Wine and Sylvan Esso. Approximately 50 national and local acts will converge on downtown Long Beach September 23-25 for what appears to be an eclectic, mini Coachella that promises to garner one of the city’s biggest festival audiences in recent memory.
Each day of the event will feature its own theme with specially curated music and food. Things will kick off on Friday night 9/23, with a high energy music/food block party highlighting craft beer and local vendors, followed by the main event on Saturday 9/24, offering 4 jam-packed stages of music, plus an optional VIP farm-to-table dinner. The weekend concludes on Sunday, 9/25, spotlighting more great music and a Bloody Mary brunch.
Three-day tickets and single day tickets will go on sale this month and are expected to cost a little more than $100.
MTG revealed its lineup last Saturday during a free, special 21+ event The Packard Building in Long Beach which includes Metz, De La Soul, Gallant, The Melvins, Living Colour, Squeeze, Vintage Trouble, Cody ChesnuTT, and Nick Waterhouse among other well known touring acts.
Local bands tapped for this event range from celebrated LBC outfit RX Bandits to Rudy De Anda, Spare Parts For Broken Hearts and Bootleg Orchestra.
The event’s curator, Josh Fischel, is a Long Beach-based event promoter/singer/songwriter. He spent nine years touring the world with the band Bargain Music and as a solo act. He has sung and/or played/toured with artists like Los Lobos, Dr. Dog, Run DMC, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Jack Irons (Pearl Jam), Black Eyed Peas, Weezer, N’Dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies), Mike Watt, Monsieur LeRoc, Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Spearhead, Murs, The High Strung, Ikey Owens (Mars Volta and Jack White) and many others.
As one of the band of artists and promoters that changed the scope and landscape of the Long Beach music scene, Fischel has focused his creativity on carefully conceived eventsthat bring artists from around the world to a city that used to be an afterthought, but is becoming a necessary stop for touring musicians.
