Los Alamitos has a kick-ass All-American high school football team, a hella fun horse race track, and now a brewpub worthy of a visit. Brew Kitchen Alehouse has great burgers, sandwiches, salads and desserts, and meaty baby backribs with a chipolte bourbon sauce that is so good you might just drink it from a snifter,
Make reservations if you have a big party, because this place fills up quick (better yet: show up super-early to get one of the 12 seats at the small bar). Service is impeccable—my waitress knew her way around the 30 craft beers on tap, and the manager was constantly checking on all the customers. There’s also outdoor seating if you just need to chill out after losing your nest egg at the track!
Brew Kitchen doesn’t make their own suds, but their selection is solid. I started off with Offshore Pale Ale (5.6% ABV) from El Segundo Brewing Co. Very refreshing, easy to drink, not too hoppy with no bitter aftertaste—fresh! Deep Dish IPA (6.4% ABV) from Knee Deep Brewing Co. paired nicely with the Siracha wings, its great combination of hops with slight tropical fruit notes light and easy. And the Hopulent Double IPA (8.8% ABV) from Epic Brewing Co. lived up to its house’s name! This DIPA should be sipped at a leisurely pace, so much desmadre going on: Malty, hoppy, creamy, even slightly citrus-y.
Brew Kitchen has daily dinner specials and Happy Hour Monday through Thursday. Go enjoy the ponies if you must—but save some $$ for the new brewpub in town.
