Just getting in under the wire in the current Special Screenings was a free showing of Hairspray promoting the upcoming QFilm Festival.
For the second year in a row, the LGBTQ Movie On the Beach event is being used to herald the near-arrival of Long Beach's oldest, continuous LGBTQ film festival.
So first, you are to go out Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to Alfredo's Beach Club, 5100 Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, to see John Waters' 1988 musical comedy in which overweight teen Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) becomes the star of a popular teen dance show—and then pushes for more racial integration of the program. Like we said at the top, it's FREE!
Also featured at LGBTQ Movie On the Beach is a sneak peak of QFilms' programming during the Sept. 8-11 run in the Art Theatre. You are encouraged to bring blankets or beach chairs, and food and drink are available for purchase.
To further get you jazzed about the fest, QFilm today released this trailer:
