UPDATE, SEPT. 16, 9:23 A.M.: Moving up to remind about the checkpoints tonight in Tustin, Buena Park and Costa Mesa.
ORIGINAL POST, SEPT. 15, 5:59 A.M.: The Irvine Police Department concludes a series of 10 DUI checkpoints with a rare Thursday night sobriety stop at 8 tonight.
The checkpoint runs through 2 a.m. Friday in the area of Alton Parkway and Irvine Center Drive, according to the department.
It comes a night before three other Orange County police departments have checkpoints scheduled.
There will be one in Buena Park from 7 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Knott and Noritsu avenues.
Tustin has a checkpoint at an undisclosed location, also from 7 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday.
Starting an hour later and ending an hour sooner (8 p.m. to 2 a.m.) is a Costa Mesa checkpoint. The location is also undisclosed.
Each department receives funding for anti-DUI operations from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
