For the first time in its 11-year history, the Collaboration Urban Dance Competition & Showcase brings the energy and excitement of its yearly event to Southern California, hosted at UC Irvine’s own Barclay Theatre. If you think Irvine a strange choice to host an urban dance competition, think again: UCI is the source of many amazing college dance troupes, some which made it to bigger success. (Kaba Modern, anyone?) For this major competition, judges preside over thirty dance crews ranging in size and style, from collegiate to professional dance companies, all who live and promote the three tenets of Collaboration SoCal: respect, family and love of dance. You’d be hard pressed to find a better event to witness talented youths perform breathtaking hip-hop routines on one stage.
