When enjoying the simple love story of Romeo and Juliet, it’s easy to forget just how convoluted Shakespeare can get. To witness the immortal bard at his squirrliest, head down to the Long Beach Playhouse this weekend where director Sean Gray gives vivid life to Much Ado About Nothing. The story follows two couples—one with an aversion to love, the other rendered speechless by it. A pair of princes try to play tricks on the respective couples (disrespectfully) and the plot thickens with the addition of a bumbling constable who discovers the princes’ plots. It's one of William's finest—check it out, and try to keep up.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 28. Continues through March 29, 2014
