Monday, September 8th will be this year's date of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, a.k.a. the Chinese Moon Festival, a.k.a. when people eat mooncakes.
You might have noticed that all the Chinese bakeries are putting out boxes of those dense hockey pucks of pastry, but one bakery (J.J. Bakery) is reportedly going to make a really, really big moon cake for the 2014 Happy Moon Festival in Irvine. The festivities will be presented by World Journal (formerly known as Chinese Daily News) at Irvine Chinese School at 9 Truman, Irvine, on Saturday, September 6, 2014 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.

They will have lantern giveaways, riddles, live performances and traditional night market games. But the main draw will be the “Huge Mooncake Exhibition and Tasting” on which J.J. Bakery reportedly spent more than a month designing and then making what's being touted as the biggest mooncake in the United States.
How big? Well, the organizers are keeping mum, saying that “the weight, the diameter and the flavors of the huge mooncake will remain a secret until the day of the festival, when they will be revealed through riddles.”
So I suppose you have to find out by going. Parking and admission are free. Visitors will be able to see and, more importantly, take a taste of the huge mooncake. Sampling will start at 6:30 p.m.
