The Five Must-See Shows in OC This Weekend

Friday, May 17

Sederra
House of Blues Anaheim
Anytime the punk shredders of Sederra come to the House of Blues Anaheim, they have a habit of bringing the entire Fullerton punk scene with them. Last time they played the Mouse House for free, they stuffed the place to capacity to the point where they had to turn people away. This weekend, they've decided to follow up on that madness by offering another free show that combines their rocket-propelled skate punk with a few other bands that offer something for everyone. Joined by pop punk lads Seven Year War, prog-reggae outfit Solution, FM rockers Warner Drive and Ethanz Ride and ska punkers Stupid Flanders. One thing all these bands have in common: crazy-ass fans! The Rolling Stones
Honda Center
Nearly every music lover possesses a bucket list of must-see bands, and chances are The Rolling Stones top more than a few. Last year, the iconic rockers celebrated fifty years of performing with their aptly titled “50 and Counting” tour, stopping by a small handful of cities including London and New York. The tour picks up again this month in SoCal, hitting a pair of dates at the Honda Center. The Stones recently gave fans a taste of what to expect on the upcoming tour, playing a surprise club show at Los Angeles' Echoplex last month. Now set to sink their teeth into the arena run, the living legends gear up to deliver their signature moves and timeless music–at arena prices. Catch them while you can, and enjoy blues rock at its finest. (Heidi Darby)

Tashi Miyaki
Burger Records
In just a short amount of time, LA-based group Tashaki Miyaki have inflicted dreamy lo-fi sweetness through several short EPs featuring covers of everyone from Guns N' Roses to The Everly Brothers. But along with garage re-imaginings of popular songs, Tashaki Miyaki have shown up on the radar with fuzzy Velvet Underground-esque melodies and haunting reverb on tracks such as “Best Friend,” “Tonight,” and “Keep Me In Mind,” (which you might know as that one song from the Subaru commercial about the helicopter parent and his daughter's first day at school). Tashaki Miyaki have a bunch of shows on the horizon, hinting their skyrocketing popularity will make them even hotter commodities in the future, so don't miss their free show tonight at Burger Records with Colleen Green. Primus
Fox Theater Pomona
If you've never heard the phrase “Primus sucks,” allow us to formally educate you. Primus is the oft-bizarre prog-rock trio from the Bay Area who dazzled alt audiences in the '80s and '90s with songs about sturgeon fishing and big brown beavers. Earning the ironic fan chant “Primus sucks” with their wonky rhythms and arrangements, their eccentricity was rivaled only by their musical virtuosity. Best of all, rather than centering their ensemble around grungy guitars, Primus features bass wizard Les Claypool front and center. Their shows are funky, high energy, and weird. After a long hiatus and various side projects, the band is on the road again touring in support of its 2011 album Green Naugahyde. This concert features 3-D visuals and Quad Surround Sound. Enjoy some groovy sounds, right in your face. (Brandon Ferguson)

Holy Ghost!
The Observatory
New York natives Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser have hit it big in '80s synth pop wonderland as Holy Ghost!, a duo whose music features futuristic disco beats and club remixes of top-40 hits by MGMT, Moby and Phoenix, among others. Since their breakthrough hit “Hold On,” Holy Ghost!'s popularity has gone global, being featured on numerous Kitsuné compilation albums and music review blogs citing their flair for funk and R&B flourishes. For a good time, check out their dance-inducing tracks “Static On The Wire” and “Do It Again.” Later this year they'll be touring with the grandaddy of electronic dance groups, New Order, but tonight at the Observatory you can check them out with fellow synth pop duo Classixxx.
