While many theater houses draw their curtains over the summer months, the Segerstrom Center for the Arts embraces the season with their Free Movie Mondays series. Held in the Center's open-air Arts Plaza each week, a family-friendly film is preceded by themed-contests and trivia, plus a selection of animated shorts from the Newport Beach Film Festival. Tonight, they screen the celebrated documentary Buena Vista Social Club, which follows jazz guitarist Ry Cooder to Cuba as he attempts to reunite the remarkable but nearly forgotten musicians of pre-revolutionary Havana—resulting in one unforgettable performance. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, beach chairs and snacks, though, new this year, the Patina Group offers food items for sale inspired by the movie of the week—and that means churros!
Set-up starts at 5:30 p.m.; film begins at 8 p.m.
