This 1956 multiple-Oscar-winning film is considered a cinematic classic, but The King and I is actually banned in Thailand where, because the country's royal family is held in such high regard, the film's historical inaccuracies are found extremely insulting. (Good thing Americans are more lax, White House Down never would have made it to the screen!) Tonight, Bowers Museum presents the film about a British governess, played by the impeccable Deborah Kerr, who takes a job in Siam to teach English to the King's children. Yul Brenner was so riveting in the role of the King, he won an Oscar for Best Actor. (Fun fact: Marlon Brando was originally considered for the part.) Come see the slightly controversial feature with introduction and post-screening discussion from Michael Berlin, Ph.D., a screenwriter and professor.
