Amy Herzog's family-centric dramatic comedy may have eluded Broadway by a few streets, but that didn't stop the two-character narrative from winning the 2012 Obie for Best New American Play, Time Magazine's nod as the best play of that year, and even a spot as a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. After 21-year old Leo (played by Matt Caplan) suffers a terrible tragedy while biking cross-country, he turns up at his grandmother's West Village apartment, lost and penniless (Grandmother Vera is spotlessly played by Jenny O'Hara). Over the course of a month, these two fiery characters, separated by 70 years, fight, disagree, come back together, and ultimately create an invaluable bond. Come see 4000 Miles, running at SCR, for an exquisitely told story that Caplan calls “…both subtle and unforgettable. And most importantly, human.”
