[UPDATED with Corroboration:] Sheriff's Deputy and Control Tower Supposedly See Orange UFO West of John Wayne Airport

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 7, 10:03 A.M.: An Orange County sheriff's deputy–or someone identifying themselves as an Orange County sheriff's deputy working John Wayne Airport–saw an orange object emitting a bright light in the sky west of the runways early Sunday, according to a UFO tracking website. The deputy–or person claiming . . . aw, you get it by now–further claims to have called the sighting in to the control tower, which reported seeing it, too. Are the hairs on the back of your neck rising now, too?

The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) logged the event at 2:10 a.m., and UFO Stalker reports there was another sighting in Santa Ana that same morning. Here's the account (ALL CAPS were his or her's):

I AM A DEPUTY SHERIFF AT THE JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT. AT THE LISTED DATE/TIME I WAS PATROLLING THE AREA OF OPERATION (RUNWAY) AND PARKED. I NOTICED AN ORANGE ORB EMITTING A FAIRLY INTENSE LIGHT. I CALLED THE CONTROL CENTER (DISPATCH) AND THEY ALSO SAW THE OBJECT. THE OBJECT WAS AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE FROM ME DIRECTLY WEST OF THE AIRPORT OVER THE CITY OF COSTA MESA. THE OBJECT STAYED STATIONARY FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES. WHILE WATCHING THE OBJECT WITH BINOCULARS I NOTICED IT WAS SLOWLY DROPPING ELEVATION. THE OBJECT COULD BE SEEN BETWEEN TWO TALL BUILDINGS AND I ESTIMATED THE DISTANCE TO BE ABOUT ONE MILE. THE ORB HAD NO BLINKING LIGHTS. THERE WERE SEVERAL AIRCRAFT ON THE LONG BEACH AIRPORT FLIGHT PATH AT DIFFERENT DISTANCES THAT I COULD CLEARLY SEE THEIR BEACONS (1 MILE TO 5 MILES FROM MY LOCATION). THERE WAS ALSO A POLICE HELICOPTER THAT I COULD SEE SOUTHWEST OF MY LOCATION AND IT TOO WAS CLEARLY RECOGNIZABLE. THIS OBJECT DROPPED TO A 20 DEGREE ANGLE FROM ME AND WENT OUT (FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM). WITHIN ABOUT ONE SECOND I COULD SEE THE OBJECT STILL WEST OF ME BUT IT WAS DIMMER AND APPEARED TO BE 1/10TH THE ORIGINAL SIZE. IT ALSO APPEARED TO BE FARTHER OUT.

UPDATE, FEB. 8, 11:18 A.M.: A similar sighting near John Wayne Airport was observed 24 hours before the deputy's, according to UFO Tracker:

At 2:50 p.m. last Saturday:

I was in my room at the time sitting at my computer. It was about 2:50PM
when I looked out my window and saw the object. It took me a second to
figure out what I was looking at. I live very close to John Wayne
airport so seeing planes and helicopters is nothing new. This object was
different so I took my phone and went into my backyard. The sky was
very overcast with a nice cloud cover. The cloud cover almost made it
the object easier to see. it was off to the east toward Tustin and was
accompanied by a smaller second craft that would follow the bigger one.
The two objects slowly glided across the sky toward the north direction
toward orange. The larger object looked as if it had something orbiting
it or it was changing its shape. I watched this glide for about 20
minutes when a third object about the same size as the smaller one
showed up. The three objects hovered there for a minute and the smaller
crafts looked to be gaining altitude and lowering altitude to make
patterns. They were making triangle patterns. I have always been a
believer but this was something to see. I was so upset my camera was not
good enough to get any pictures but after this I will be out to get one
for the next time! The objects stayed in the triangle formations for
about 15 minutes then one by one they looked to gain altitude till I
could no longer see them.
