Elderly Orange County Prison Escapee Wanted by U.S. Marshals

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is hunting for an 82-year-old serial bank robber who escaped from a federal incarceration facility in Orange County five weeks ago.

With only 31 months remaining on his 181-month prison sentence, Charles Richard Manrow walked out of the Garden Grove Residential Reentry Center on a mid-September morning and failed to return.

Manrow had authorization to temporarily leave with a grocery shopping pass, according to a federal report.

After discovering the inmate missing, officials conducted an unsuccessful search of the neighbor, which is about a two-minute drive from Disneyland.

Through 2005, the onetime Pennsylvania resident robbed banks in Laguna Niguel, Seal Beach and San Juan Capistrano as well as in several other states, including Utah, Arizona and Colorado.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies located a stolen Orange County vehicle parked at the Red Roof Inn in Thousand Palms after the heists.

Manrow possessed a semi-automatic handgun, bank bags, stolen cash and fake identification at the time of his arrest.
