We’d like to think California would have eventually become as popular as it is without the benefit of the Gold Rush, but there’s no denying it certainly introduced a lot of people to our state. Sure, there wasn’t too much prospecting going on in what was to eventually become Orange County, but that hasn’t stopped Casa Romantica from hosting this show highlighting, through text and pictures, the individual stories of the people of all stripes who came west to strike it big. Though their motivation may have been filthy lucre, their vibrant and colorful contributions to our state’s history are part of why we still love it so much. And we hear that with these stressed financial markets, gold is a good investment again.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Tuesdays, 1-4 p.m. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Nov. 15, 2008
