The pinnacle of Southern dramas, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof tells the story of a couple in the throes of marital misery fueled by Southern mores, struggle, mendacity and lots and lots of liquor. If anyone knows how to weave a web of dispair, it’s Tennessee Williams. In an effort to gain the favor of Big Daddy, the grand ole patriarch of the story, during his birthday festivities the two jockey for most pathetic: she from poverty, he reeling from the recent suicide of a friend. In epic turns, Elizabeth Taylor (smoldering in nothing but a slip) attempts to seduce, unsuccessfully, a blistering hot Paul Newman. One problem though…he’s just not that into her (spoiler alert: he’s gay).
