Free Crap That Came In The Mail: Straight No Chaser, 'Live Your Life and Flo with Whatever You Like'

Well, the “electronic” mail. That counts, I'm sure.

Got an e-mail today from Atlantic Records promoting “their” a cappella group “Straight No Chaser.” (That's how they put it: “Straight No Chaser is Atlantic Records' a cappella group.” As if they own them, and if they can't have more than one a cappella group at the same time. Well, both things may indeed be true.) Since I (or anyone else, I assume) haven't really heard much from the genre since the immortal Rockapella, I was naturally intrigued.

As you can see, these guys really like sweaters.

What was even more intriguing was the particular project being plugged in the missive: “an a cappella medley of smash hits “Whatever You Like” and “Live Your Life” by T.I. and “Low by Flo Rida.”

Surely a clean-cut 10-piece singing three of 2008's hottest hip-hop tracks, especially with lyrics like “late night sex so wet you're so tight” and “gave that big booty a smack” was worth at least a few chuckles. But imagine my dismay when neither of the links in the e-mail worked on my computer, most likely given that they were in the thoroughly outdated Real Audio and Windows Media formats (who has a Real Audio player these days? What is this, Russia?). And some people say the major labels are behind the times.

Undeterred, I plowed forward, and finally found this link, where I could listen to the glorious weridness in its entirety. Sort of disappointing in that they use the radio edit version of “Whatever You Like,” meaning no “sex so wet you're so tight,” but that also means no broke n-words, which was surely a wise move on their parts.

It's really not nearly as lame as one might think; actually it sounds kind of cool. The true comedy, one would guess, would be in seeing them perform it live–especially if they were wearing those sweaters.
