In this dual art show, David Michael Lee and Anthony Gordon (who both received an MFA from Cal State Fullerton), hang their paintings in opposition to each other. Both artists’ styles are a mix of abstract imagery combined with borrowed pictures from books and stock footage. Both seek to “considers chaos, combat and the struggle for human advancement with our own limitations being our largest obstacle.” Yet the result of their work is blatantly opposite. Gordon favors detailed illustrations that are mostly grey tone with splotches of neon; Lee goes for a cartoonish, two-dimensional explosion of color. Both men refuse to depict modern images of violence or political events, so it is up to the viewer to decide which painting is on attack, and which is on defense.
