Dubstep sprouted from London’s garage scene almost a decade ago, but it took a little time to fully flourish. Often dark in tone and structure, this form of instrumental dance music traditionally loops percussion and digital riffs around a grounding, higher-tempo base line, giving the drums more room to show off. A sparsly-rhythmic form of electronica, Dubstep occasionally dips into the Reggae pool (and we love it when it does), but usually stays in the vein of gritty garage dance. Tuesday’s celebration of this esoteric genre will present 12th Planet, Emu N Pawn, Johnny Love, Glen Porter and more to blast the air full of bass drops and long-winded consonants. Just know it as great music to shake it to.
