Did you hear about the ramenya that Jonathan Gold dubbed one of LA's 99 Essential Restaurants coming to Costa Mesa? No, not Ramen Yamadaya, which has been open for months. I'm talking about Jinya, the other slurp peddler that has restaurants in Studio City and the Miracle Mile of which Gold said was the ramen joint that he and the respected ramen blogger named Rameniac could agree on.
]
Jinya not only serves the long-simmered pork bone soup called tonkotsu, but also a ramen cioppino.
The first Orange County station of Jinya will open on April (the 25th, according to their website), not far
from Yamadaya and across the corner from the Marukai where, of course,
Daikokuya, another LA ramen import, stands. Let's also not forget Costa
Mesa is home to the venerable Santoka and others.
After next month,
Costa Mesa needs to seriously consider changing its motto from “City of
the Arts” (yes, I had to look that up) to “City of the Slurp”.
