The OC Music Awards are now a week (OK, eight days) away, and their speeding towards April 4 at the Grove of Anaheim with their “best acoustic” and oddly broad “best live band” finals tonight and tomorrow.
Melanoid, Yellow Red Sparks, AJ Degrasse, Cory Case and Hong Kong Six (pictured) will be acoustically battling it out tonight at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana; tomorrow, Venus Infers, The New Limb, The Jakes, The Union Line and The Living Suns will square off for the lofty title of “best live band” at the Yost Theatre, also in downtown in Santa Ana. And you can see both shows for freesies.
Both lineups look great–I'm listening to Melanoid's Asleep in the Wake as I type, and I've gotten to see Yellow Red Sparks a couple times recently, both were excellent. I haven't seen the other three bands playing the acoustic finals yet, but Cory Case was just on KUCI's Press Pass Music show, if you wanna check that out. The Yost show features some of the currently biggest local names, including The Jakes, who are also playing Bamboozle the day of the OCMAs. The New Limb might kind of be the underdogs in that lineup, though we've been digging on them since like, last month!
