Fatburger Divisions File For Bankruptcy, While CPK Booms

Seems we're not even buying burgers any more.

On the other hand, maybe we're starting to think that it's not all doom and gloom, and that we might live beyond 2010.

Two divisions of the struggling Fatburger chain, Fatburger Restaurants of California and Fatburger Restaurants of Nevada, have both filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

There's no talk so far of locations shuttering, and parent company Fog Cutter Capital Group, which has been struggling to repay loans, says the move will hopefully allow the company to ride out the storm, as leases can now be renegotiated.

California Pizza Kitchen, meanwhile, is enjoying  healthy sales, thanks to aggressive cost-cutting measures. Average spending at CPK restaurants has increased by one-fifth over the last year, the company has announced.

What next? Boomtime at Souplantation, as we all start to believe in Obama's “glimmers of hope”?
