National Adult Spelling Bee, Saturday, 2 p.m.

This annual event in Long Beach is only for adults who live or work in the United
States. Spellers can register for $30/advance or $50/week-of-event.
And it's just $5 to spectate. Watch some grown ups spell their asses off! Sorry, no heckling.

Intermediate Mountain Bike Ride, Sunday, 9 a.m.

Enjoy ocean and canyon views on this 13-mile ride over steep terrain
(2,200-ft gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike
trail assistant Jeff Bartel. Reservations and helmets required. But you might want to bring some wrist guards, too. (Our beloved art director recently broke both of her wrists during a mountain bike journey, so you can never be too careful!)
