The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival starts today and continues through the weekend. There will be a parade, strawberry-related food, carnival rides, entertainment, and Cloris Leachman.
But c'mon, you wanna know about that giant thing I have pictured above right? Yes, it is the world's biggest strawberry shortcake, weighing more than a half ton. It's a tradition, don-cha-know?! And it's the centerpiece of the festival's opening ceremonies.
Here's a little history: “Priscilla's Cake Box, a longtime Garden Grove bakery, made the first cake and other local bakers followed. For the past 22 years the task has gone to Herb's Black Forest Bakery in Fountain Valley. The mayor of Garden Grove cuts the first piece and presents the top to Miss Garden Grove, then, as many as 4,000 more slices are cut and served free to festival-goers attending the ceremonies.”
The cake cutting happens today at 6 p.m.
